SUBJECT:  Medical/Dental Insurance – Open Enrollment
                    Response Required by June 10, 2019


Open enrollment will occur between May 15 and June 10 for medical, dental, and voluntary vision insurance coverage that will begin on July 1.  During this time period you will have the opportunity to:

  • Enroll for the first time;                                   
  • Add or cancel dependents;
  • Waive/decline the insurance; or
  • Maintain your current insurance coverage.

As of July 1, 2019, all paraeducators and nurses currently enrolled in the Anthem PPO 30/40 coverage will automatically be enrolled in the HSA. 

As of July 1, 2019, all educational personnel (a.k.a. secretaries) and custodial/maintenance employees currently enrolled in the Anthem PPO 30/40 coverage will automatically be enrolled in the HSA contingent upon the ratification of union contracts prior to June 30, 2019. 

  • If you do not want to be automatically transferred or do not want to re-enroll in the HSA and/or dental plan, you MUST waive/decline coverage on the Insurance Election Form.
  • If you are choosing to add dependent(s) or enrolling in the HSA for the very first time, (and are not one of the union members mentioned above who will be automatically transferred into the HSA), you must complete an Insurance Election Form, the Anthem Enrollment Form, and if desired, an HSA Payroll Deduction Form.
  • Employees or their spouses that are currently contributing to a Flex Medical Account and/or enrolled in Medicare, are not eligible to enroll in an HSA.  Please refer to additional information provided on the website regarding IRS regulations for HSA, Flex Medical Accounts, Medicare, and other insurance coverage with spouse.    
  • If you are enrolled in Medicare, you MUST be sure to elect the HRA option on the Insurance Election Form.

All forms MUST be returned by June 10.  If the appropriate form(s) are not received by the deadline, you will automatically be enrolled in the same plan coverage you currently have.

 IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO MAKE A CHANGE TO YOUR COVERAGE, YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO RETURN ANY FORMS. 

PLEASE NOTE: The next open enrollment period will not occur until May/June 2020.  Changes outside of the open enrollment period are only permitted if a qualified change in life status has occurred.

Payroll deductions will be taken in 18 equal payments between 9/13/19 and 5/22/20.  The required employee contribution is detailed on the appropriate employee Insurance Election Form.
